Hai Phong City

Hai Phong is a major industrial city and the second largest city in the north of Vietnam. The city is also known as ‘The City of Flame Flowers’, taken from the large number of Flame Flower trees that line most of the streets. A coastal city, Hai Phong features hot, humid summers and cool, dry winters. Hai Phong is around a 2 hour bus or train ride from the capital Ha Noi.

Do Son Beach in Hai Phong is the closest beach to Ha Noi and it is surrounded by many islets, where you can enjoy swimming, sunbathing and underwater activities. Cat Ba Island and Cat Ba National Park are great destinations for those who enjoy getting away from the city into the untouched beauty of this part of the country. These locations offer some of the best scenery and diversity of animals in Vietnam.

Hai Phong is known for traditional festivals held every year such as buffalo fighting, boat racing and the ‘Earth Firecracker’ festival. Local people believe that these festivals will bring harmony and good luck.

Accommodation in Hai Phong is in the range of 4,000,000 – 8,000,000 VND per month depending on location, facilities etc. Teachers who work in Hai Phong will receive a Housing Allowance of 5,000,000 VND* per month and an additional 43,000 VND per hour.
